T-Ball Drills (Ages 4-5)
The key to T-Ball is FUN and ACTIVITY. Keep kids moving with short, station-based drills.
Ready, Set, Go!
Skill: Baserunning
Line players up at home plate. On "Go!", have them run through first base. Emphasize running hard all the way through the bag. Make it a race to keep it fun.
Crocodile Traps
Skill: Fielding Grounders
Have players get on one knee. Roll a soft ball to them. Teach them to make a "crocodile mouth" with their glove and trapping hand to swallow the ball. This teaches them to use two hands.
Tee-Time
Skill: Hitting
Focus on one thing at a time. Start with proper stance (feet shoulder-width apart). Then, teach them to "squish the bug" with their back foot as they swing. Keep it simple and positive.
Throwing at the Monster
Skill: Throwing
Set up a large cardboard box or a pop-up net as the "monster." Have players practice throwing soft baseballs into the monster's mouth. Teach the "T-Pose, Step, and Throw" motion.
